Teeth Whitening in Montreal
Teeth Whitening
A healthy, bright smile can boost confidence. If you are concerned about the color of your teeth, Dr. Wisdom offers teeth whitening treatments using professional techniques adapted to your needs.
Teeth whitening is one of the most commonly requested aesthetic dental treatments. When performed under professional supervision, it can be safe and effective.
Why Consider Teeth Whitening at Dr. Wisdom?
A dental examination prior to whitening is essential. Some teeth may have sensitivity, gum recession, or other conditions that make whitening inadvisable. Intrinsic stains, caused by factors such as tetracycline use, root canals, or other conditions, may not respond effectively to whitening treatments. Additionally, restorations like composite bonding, crowns, and veneers do not whiten. A cleaning or other dental treatments may be necessary before proceeding with whitening.
At Dr. Wisdom, we offer two types of whitening treatments:
Philips ZOOM Laser Whitening
This method uses a hydrogen peroxide-based gel and UV light. The Zoom treatment begins with the application of a protective material on the gums. The gel is then applied to the teeth, and UV light is used for 3 to 4 sessions of 15 minutes each.
At the end of the procedure, you may notice an improvement in the brightness of your smile. To maintain the results, touch-ups at home using custom whitening trays are recommended. Results may vary depending on individual factors, and it’s important to follow post-treatment care instructions.
Home Whitening with Custom Trays
This method involves the use of custom-made trays and a hydrogen peroxide-based gel provided by the clinic. The trays are designed to fit your teeth precisely, ensuring even application of the gel. Treatment is typically carried out over several days or weeks, depending on the desired results.
Home whitening offers a gradual improvement in tooth color, allowing you to manage the process at your own pace. Our team will provide detailed instructions to ensure the treatment is safe and effective.
The Teeth Whitening Cost in Montreal
The cost of professional teeth whitening in Montreal can vary from clinic to clinic. At Doctor Wisdom, the Zoom whitening at the chair cost $800 and the whitening kit at home will cost $700. For optimal results, you can combine both for a total price of $900.

Why Teeth Become Discolored
Staining substances that gradually alter their appearance. Discoloration can also result from dental trauma or the use of certain medications.
Here are some common causes of dental discoloration:
• Foods and beverages: Coffee, tea, wine, turmeric, and certain sauces can cause staining over time.
• Tobacco: Tobacco use is a common cause of tooth yellowing.
• Poor dental hygiene: Inadequate oral hygiene can lead to plaque and tartar buildup, causing visible stains.
• Diseases: Certain conditions can affect tooth enamel, making teeth more prone to discoloration by exposing more of the underlying dentin.
• Medications: Some antibiotics, like tetracycline, can cause a grayish discoloration of the teeth. Similarly, prolonged use of mouthwashes containing chlorhexidine can lead to staining.
• Dental materials: Amalgam fillings can sometimes give teeth or the surrounding gums a grayish tint.
• Aging: As enamel thins with age, more of the naturally yellow dentin becomes visible.
• Excess fluoride (fluorosis): Excessive fluoride exposure during tooth development can result in white spots.
• Dental trauma: A blow or injury to a tooth (for example, from a fall) can lead to darkening or discoloration.
Teeth Whitening Advantages
Having your teeth whitened professionally is a quick and efficient way to boost your self-esteem and enhance the overall appearance of your smile. It is also a solution much cheaper than veneers if it’s only the color of your teeth that’s bothering you.
Who Can Consider Teeth Whitening?
In many cases, yellow tooth discoloration can be reduced with teeth whitening. However, teeth with a brown or gray tint may respond less effectively, as this type of discoloration often originates from within the tooth.
Teeth whitening may not be recommended for:
• Pregnant or breastfeeding women
• Individuals with dental restorations (fillings, implants, crowns, veneers, or bridges), as these materials do not respond to whitening.
• Children under the age of 18, whose teeth are still developing.
• Patients with periodontal disease, untreated cavities, or exposed roots, as whitening could worsen these conditions.
• People with sensitive teeth or significant gum recession.
• Patients allergic to peroxide, a common ingredient in whitening solutions.
• Individuals with unrealistic expectations regarding whitening
